Prioritization, Presence, and Designing a Life You Actually Want

One of the things I appreciate most about being part of PLACE is the way they invest in growth - not just professionally, but personally too.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to learn from Brendon Burchard, a New York Times bestselling author and high-performance coach recognized by Forbes for his work around mindset, leadership, and intentional living.

What stood out most wasn’t productivity advice or business strategy. It was a simple question he asked early in the conversation:

It is a question that stays with you.

So many of us spend our days reacting - answering emails, handling responsibilities, solving problems, moving from one task to the next. Over time, it becomes easy to confuse being busy with actually building the life we want.

Brendon talked about two ideas that shape nearly everything else: prioritization and presence.

Your Calendar Already Reveals Your Priorities

One of the strongest points he made was this:

Your real priorities are not what you say matters. Your priorities are what consistently receive your time and energy.

That can be uncomfortable to think about because most of us have good intentions. We want more time with family. More balance. Better health. More meaningful work. More peace.

But when life gets crowded, the things that matter most are often the first things pushed aside.

His perspective was that most people do not need to add more. They need to remove more.

Less distraction.
Less noise.
Less obligation to things that no longer fit the life they are trying to create.

Only then do you create room for what actually matters.

Presence Changes the Direction of Your Life

The second idea was presence.

Not perfection. Not constant motivation. Just being fully present in the way you show up.

Because how you show up daily quietly shapes where your life goes.

Showing up exhausted, distracted, and disconnected pulls you further from the life you want. Showing up intentionally - even in small ways - moves you closer to it.

That applies everywhere:

  • At work
  • At home
  • In relationships
  • In conversations
  • In the goals we keep postponing

It was a good reminder that we often have more control than we think we do.

Not over every circumstance. But over our focus, our attention, and the decisions we make repeatedly.

And those small repeated decisions eventually become our life.

A Reminder Worth Holding Onto

The conversation was motivating because it was practical.

It was not about chasing perfection or trying to “do it all.” It was about becoming more intentional with the life already in front of us.

I think that reminder matters for everyone.

Because designing a life you love rarely happens by accident. It happens through small choices, clear priorities, and learning to be more present in the moments that make up your days.
